Street kids of Huancayo

José Galvez, Coordinator of the Project: “Rurastin Yachaysunchik” (Learning by Making). I visited these children many of them ex-pirañitas (street gangs) and with this help from Group # 10 they have learned to make shoes. They gave me a nice pair of loafers that I will never use since I proudly show them to everyone. As a business, the shoe shop has not produced results. They need to know about accounting, business, etc., But as a social project they have taken these children destined for a life of crime and taught them an honest profession. The change made has been dramatic to observe. The value of our help is seen in the self-esteem that has been achieved. For me, that is worth more than all business profits.

Joel also receives help from FONCODES who provide them with cookies, and milk. They also receive 120 food rations from Huancayo's charity. With the last donation a computer has been purchased and the children are being trained by young people from the National University of Huancayo.
